Saint Martial's shrine

The shrine is placed in the repository of an altar built in honour of the saint. It is a 900 pound,
brass-plated structure made out of solid oak-wood. Eight panels represent the miracles accomplished by the saint. The opening of the shrine is performed by means of four keys, respectively in the care of the Bishop of the Diocese, the Mayor of Limoges, the Vicar in charge of Saint-Michael's church and the Bailiff of Saint Martial's Confraternity. One can read across the base:
"I am the property of the fellow members of Saint Martial's Confraternity.
A.D.1809".
